Austin 2

I had a good long chat with the clerk at an art supply store here (who has done posters and cover art for the likes of guns and roses among others!). He recommended this toned art board from Canson so I gave it a shot and was really pleased. Only down side, it’s $2.99 per sheet.

A troll isn’t quite prepared for the stubbornness of a little girl who refuses to pay the toll.

Girl in the Austin public library… I didn’t actually stand there drawing her – that would be a little creepy – so this is an attempt to draw from memory after just a quick glimpse while walking past the aisles. At any rate it was a cool pose.

Without fail, anyone who had been to Austin, who found out I was going there, told me to visit Barton springs. I didn’t actually pay the $3 to go swimming, but from just outside the fence you can sit and draw semi nude people to your heart’s content. Bonus points if you go in the late afternoon when the sun is beginning to set. I’m definitely going to do more here if I can.

It has been my habit to erase initial pencil sketches; however, I’m beginning to play around with leaving them (you might notice it in some of the Barton springs sketches). The first pencil attack often seems to have more vivacity than any subsequent rehashing.
