Questions, questions, questions on the road

Recently I’ve been thinking quite a bit about both what I’m drawing and how I’m drawing. I think I would like to bring more of a purpose or focus to my drawings and I’m beginning to feel out what that might be. Meanwhile I’m also continuing to read quite a few books on art history and drawing and therefore retaining a healthily degree of dissatisfaction with my current techniques.

So first the easy part – the drafting. I’ve gotten too comfortable with monochrome watercolor & ink and would like to push back a little.

2-Tone marker

Marker of one of my wonderful hosts from Lake Charles, LA

And my other host!

This is pencil with brown ink wash and accents in pen. I really like the tonal quality, the line, and how extremely fast it is. I think I’ll keep playing around with this in the future.

Same as above

My favorite from the new style attempts. Pencil with brown and black ink wash, and pen and charcoal accents. The mix of wet and dry media is really cool.

Black ink – no under drawing. From the farm!

When she first sat down she asked the Barista to turn off the music so she could turn on the TV… and then she started eating a bag of chips… And I’m thinking to myself, Lame! But then she turned it off, took out some knitting, and started striking up really great conversation with other strangers in the coffee shop. For all the people watching I do you would think I might have learned not to judge so quickly!

This is what OUR country looks like. Blech!
